Addressing misinformation about lash serums

Recently, there has been misinformation circulating on social media about LiLash and other top-brand lash serums in New Zealand.

Hopefully this blog will clarify the facts and provide accurate information to set your mind at ease.

LiLash, like many of the other top lash serums in New Zealand and internationally, contains an active ingredient that is part of the Prostaglandin family.

Prostaglandins are naturally occurring in the body and play a role in various physiological processes. In the context of lash serums, prostaglandins act locally at the lash follicle to boost the appearance of lashes, they have a short lifespan and are only present in very small amounts. LiLash is also formulated to contain additional ingredients to support the health of the hair follicle. These include Sweet Almond Extract, Vitamin B5, Lupine Proteins and more.

Market Leading Confidence.

Established in New Zealand since 2009, our brand has earned the trust of tens of thousands of satisfied customers and long-time users. Our commitment to quality is backed by a 90-day satisfaction guarantee.

As one of the first eyelash serum brands in NZ, we've helped shape the category over the past 15 years. While many great serums are now available, it's important to note that some newer, heavily social-media-marketed products lack unique formulations or transparency about their origins and business practices. We always recommend that customers do their own research when using any product that is applied to the facial area.

By choosing LiLash, you’re selecting a trusted market leader known for both product quality and integrity.

Clarifying Historical Misconceptions.

Hormones.

  • Our lash serums do NOT contain any hormones. Hormones are a chemical messenger that travels through the body via the bloodstream to cells and organs, where it binds to receptors and triggers responses. Prostaglandins are not Hormones.

Bimatoprost / Sunken Eyes / Fat Atrophy.

  • Our lash serums do NOT contain the ingredient Bimatoprost. This ingredient is used in a glaucoma eyedrop medicine at a much higher dosage and has been linked with side effects such as sunken eyes (fat atrophy) and a change in iris colour. Our products do NOT contain this ingredient and therefore could not cause these side effects. This is a historical misconception and we have been subjected to some inaccurate media coverage on this in the past.

Potential Side Effects.

LiLash and LiBrow, like many other cosmetics, may not be right for some people as everyone’s body chemistry is different. Due to the nature of the active ingredient in LiLash and LiBrow a small number of people may experience some mild side effects including irritation, redness, or darkening of the skin where the product is applied. These should resolve when you stop using the product.

We do not recommend using LiLash or LiBrow if you are currently pregnant or nursing, or if you are undergoing chemotherapy. If severe redness, pain, swelling, or change in vision occurs, seek medical attention immediately and discontinue use.

All of the information we have shared with you here is readily available on the Lilash website and we are always available to talk if you have any further questions, so feel free to get in touch
